Safeguarding Policy
Age Policy
18 years and over — Clients aged 18 or over may receive a reading without parental or guardian consent.
16 and 17 years — A young person aged 16 or 17 may receive a short, light-hearted reading only with the consent of a parent, guardian or responsible adult. Where appropriate, the responsible adult should remain present or nearby during the reading.
Under 16 years — Conventional psychic, clairvoyant, mediumship or predictive readings are not provided to children under 16. At suitable family events, a reader may provide a very brief, fun and clearly entertainment-based interaction, such as choosing a positive oracle or animal card, provided a parent or responsible adult has given permission and the content is appropriate for the child’s age.
Appropriate Content for Young People
Any reading provided to a person under 18 must remain positive, reassuring, age-appropriate and light-hearted.
Readers must not make predictions or statements concerning death, serious illness or accidents; pregnancy, fertility or sexual matters; abuse or other adult situations; serious relationship or family problems; financial difficulties or debt; criminal activity; frightening supernatural experiences; curses, possession, evil spirits or negative entities; or any subject likely to frighten, distress or place undue pressure upon a young person.
Important: Readers must never suggest that something bad will happen if the young person does or does not take a particular course of action.
Safeguarding & Professional Boundaries
Readers must maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
Wherever reasonably possible, a reading for someone under 18 should take place in an open or visible area rather than an isolated or completely private space.
Readers should not request unnecessary personal information from a young person or exchange personal contact details or social-media information with them.
A reader must never arrange private contact, further readings or meetings directly with a person under 18 without the involvement and consent of their parent or guardian.
If a Young Person Discloses Something Concerning
Readers should not attempt to investigate the matter themselves and must not promise to keep the information secret.
The reader should remain calm, listen without asking leading questions, and report the concern promptly to the appropriate responsible person, such as the child’s parent or guardian, the event organiser, the venue’s designated safeguarding person, or management, depending upon the circumstances.
If there is reason to believe a child or young person is in immediate danger, the appropriate emergency or safeguarding authorities should be contacted.
Reader’s Right to Refuse
A reader may decline or end a reading if the person is too young for the proposed reading; appropriate adult consent has not been obtained; the subject matter is unsuitable; the young person appears frightened, uncomfortable or distressed; there is any safeguarding concern; or continuing would not be in the young person’s best interests.
No reader is expected to provide a reading to a minor simply because a client, parent, venue or event organiser requests one.
Entertainment & Professional Advice
All psychic, tarot, clairvoyant, mediumship and related readings are offered as entertainment.
Readers must not present themselves as substitutes for qualified medical, psychological, counselling, veterinary, financial or legal professionals. Where appropriate, clients should be encouraged to seek advice from a suitably qualified professional.
Responsibility at Events
Parents and guardians remain responsible for the supervision of children and young people attending an event.
Event organisers should make readers aware in advance if significant numbers of under-18s are expected to attend.
Our Principle
The aim is to make readings enjoyable, uplifting and memorable. When working with young people, their safety, emotional wellbeing and comfort must always take priority over providing a reading.
If there is any doubt about whether a reading is appropriate, the reader should politely decline.
This policy is intended as an operational safeguarding policy and should be reviewed periodically to reflect current safeguarding guidance and legislation.
